Why Norwegian is one of the easiest languages for English speakers
- Germanic roots: huge vocabulary overlap with English (hus, bok, vann, sommer, under).
- No conjugation by person: jeg spiser, du spiser, han spiser. The verb stays the same.
- Simple word order, very close to English in most sentences.
- US Foreign Service Institute classifies Norwegian in Category I, the easiest tier for English speakers (~600 hours to professional fluency).
Why PlusOneLanguage is built for Norwegian learners
Most apps treat Norwegian as an afterthought after Spanish and French. Courses are short, content runs out fast, and you end up hunting YouTube for real Norwegian. We took the opposite approach.
Endless fresh Norwegian content
New texts generated on demand at your exact CEFR level. You will never run out, and the same lesson never repeats.
Vocabulary that recycles itself
Save a Norwegian word from one text, see it again naturally in your next text. This is the i+1 principle that actually moves the needle.
Real spaced repetition (SM-2)
Every saved word is automatically queued for review at scientifically optimal intervals. No deck building, no overwhelm.
Native Norwegian pronunciation
Tap any sentence to hear it spoken by a native Bokmål voice. Train your ear to the melody and pitch that no written rule can teach.
The daily Norwegian routine
- Read one Norwegian text Calibrated to be 90 to 95% understandable. New words are introduced in context, never as isolated lists.
- Save unknown words as they appear One tap. The word enters your personal Norwegian vocabulary deck with its translation and the exact sentence you saw it in.
- See those words again, in context Your saved words come back naturally in the next texts we generate for you, woven into new sentences at your exact level so they stick through real use, not memorization.

Common questions about learning Norwegian
Is Norwegian hard to learn for English speakers?
No. The US Foreign Service Institute classifies Norwegian in its easiest category. Grammar is light, word order is very close to English, and the vocabulary overlaps heavily. Many learners say Norwegian is the easiest Scandinavian language to read and write.
Bokmål or Nynorsk?
Our texts use Bokmål, the written standard used by around 85 to 90 percent of Norwegians and what almost all media, books, and TV use. Once you read Bokmål comfortably, Nynorsk is very approachable.
How long does it take to learn Norwegian?
With 30 to 45 minutes of daily practice, A2 (simple conversations) takes 3 to 4 months and B1 (independent conversation) takes 6 to 9 months. Consistency matters far more than session length.
