French A2 Reading Practice: At the Doctor
Explaining what hurts is one of the first things you truly need abroad. This A2 text puts health vocabulary into a short, realistic conversation.
Chez le médecin
Depuis trois jours, Anne avait mal à la gorge. Ce matin, elle a téléphoné au cabinet et la secrétaire lui a proposé un rendez-vous à quatorze heures.
Dans la salle d'attente, il y avait quatre personnes. Anne a attendu vingt minutes.
Le médecin l'a examinée et lui a demandé : « Est-ce que vous avez de la fièvre ? » Anne a répondu qu'elle avait trente-huit degrés depuis la veille.
Le médecin a expliqué que ce n'était pas grave. Il lui a prescrit un sirop et il lui a conseillé de se reposer deux jours.
Anne est passée à la pharmacie en rentrant. Le soir, elle a bu une tisane et elle s'est couchée tôt.
English translation
For three days, Anne had had a sore throat. This morning she phoned the surgery and the receptionist offered her an appointment at two o'clock.
In the waiting room there were four people. Anne waited twenty minutes.
The doctor examined her and asked: "Do you have a temperature?" Anne answered that she had had thirty-eight degrees since the day before.
The doctor explained that it was not serious. He prescribed her a syrup and advised her to rest for two days.
Anne stopped at the pharmacy on the way home. In the evening she drank a herbal tea and went to bed early.
Why this is A2
The text keeps to the A2 past tenses but adds reported speech and the useful structure depuis plus a time expression. Health vocabulary is presented inside a situation, so each word has a clear job.
