A short beginner text about ordering food in Swedish. Everything stays in the present tense, with the everyday words you need in a cafe or restaurant.
På restaurangen
Idag går Maja till en restaurang med sin vän Erik. Restaurangen är liten. Det finns sex bord och ett stort fönster.
Maja läser menyn. Hon tycker om fisk. Erik vill ha kött. Servitören kommer och frågar: "Vad vill ni ha?"
Maja säger: "Jag vill ha fisken, tack." Erik säger: "En biff och en sallad för mig." De dricker vatten.
Maten är god. Erik ber om notan. Middagen kostar tvåhundra kronor. Maja och Erik är nöjda. De går hem tillsammans.
English translation
Today Maja is going to a restaurant with her friend Erik. The restaurant is small. There are six tables and one big window.
Maja reads the menu. She likes fish. Erik wants meat. The waiter comes and asks: "What would you like?"
Maja says: "I would like the fish, please." Erik says: "A steak and a salad for me." They drink water.
The food is good. Erik asks for the bill. The dinner costs two hundred kronor. Maja and Erik are happy. They walk home together.
Why this is A1
Every verb is in the present tense, which in Swedish has only one form for all persons. The sentences are short and follow the basic word order, and the vocabulary is limited to food, numbers and simple adjectives.
