Swedish A1 Reading Practice: At the Supermarket
Food, prices and places in a shop: this text gives you the words you actually use during your first week in Sweden.
I mataffären
På lördagar handlar Sofia mat. Hon tar en vagn och en lista.
Hon köper mjölk, ägg och ett kilo äpplen. Hon letar efter riset men hittar det inte. En anställd visar hyllan: "Det står där borta, till vänster."
Vid kassan är det många människor. Sofia väntar i fem minuter. Summan är trehundrafyrtio kronor. Hon betalar med kort.
Ute regnar det. Sofia lägger påsarna i bilen och åker hem.
English translation
On Saturdays Sofia buys food. She takes a trolley and a list.
She buys milk, eggs and a kilo of apples. She looks for the rice but does not find it. An employee shows her the shelf: "It's over there, on the left."
At the checkout there are many people. Sofia waits for five minutes. The total is three hundred and forty kronor. She pays by card.
Outside it is raining. Sofia puts the bags in the car and drives home.
Why this is A1
The vocabulary is concrete and countable, and the grammar stays at A1: present tense, simple negation with inte, and basic directions. The one new pattern is the definite form appearing next to indefinite nouns, which is easy to spot here.
