French A1 texts

A1 French reading means present-tense sentences, everyday nouns and one idea per sentence. A text that only shortens sentences is not really A1; it is a harder text in disguise, and it teaches you to skim instead of to read.

Each of these texts says underneath why it belongs at A1 and lists the grammar it contains, so you can tell whether you are reading at the right level or should move up or down.

Read one text a day rather than four at once. Recognition comes from meeting the same words again in a new sentence, not from finishing a page.

Want texts that adapt to your own vocabulary?

PlusOneLanguage remembers the words you know and introduces new ones gradually, so every text is just slightly harder than the last one.
