Swedish A2 Reading Practice: A Day at Work
Office words plus the past tense: the combination that lets you tell a Swedish colleague how your day went.
En dag på jobbet
I går kom Nils till kontoret halv nio. Han hade ett viktigt möte klockan tio.
Först läste han sina mejl. Det fanns fyrtio stycken. Sedan förberedde han sin presentation, men datorn stängdes av två gånger. En kollega lånade ut sin laptop.
Under mötet ställde chefen många frågor. Nils svarade lugnt. Till slut sa hon: "Det här är bra jobbat."
Eftermiddagen var lugnare. Nils ordnade sina papper och ringde en kund. Han gick hem klockan sex.
På tunnelbanan tänkte han på mötet. Han var trött, men han kände sig ganska stolt.
English translation
Yesterday Nils came to the office at half past eight. He had an important meeting at ten.
First he read his emails. There were forty of them. Then he prepared his presentation, but the computer switched off twice. A colleague lent him his laptop.
During the meeting the boss asked a lot of questions. Nils answered calmly. In the end she said: "This is good work."
The afternoon was calmer. Nils sorted his papers and called a client. He went home at six.
On the underground he thought about the meeting. He was tired, but he felt rather proud.
Why this is A2
The text keeps to the past tense but adds time expressions that push the verb into second position, which is the main word-order challenge at A2. The vocabulary belongs to ordinary working life and repeats naturally.
