Swedish A2 Reading Practice: At the Doctor
Saying what hurts is one of the first things you really need in another country. This A2 text puts health words into a realistic visit.
Hos läkaren
Anna hade haft ont i halsen i tre dagar. I morse ringde hon vårdcentralen och fick en tid klockan två.
I väntrummet satt fyra personer. Anna väntade i tjugo minuter.
Läkaren undersökte henne och frågade: "Har du feber?" Anna svarade att hon hade haft trettioåtta grader sedan i går.
Läkaren förklarade att det inte var allvarligt. Han skrev ut en medicin och sa åt henne att vila i två dagar.
Anna gick till apoteket på vägen hem. På kvällen drack hon te och gick och lade sig tidigt.
English translation
Anna had had a sore throat for three days. This morning she called the health centre and got an appointment at two o'clock.
In the waiting room four people were sitting. Anna waited for twenty minutes.
The doctor examined her and asked: "Do you have a fever?" Anna answered that she had had thirty-eight degrees since yesterday.
The doctor explained that it was not serious. He prescribed a medicine and told her to rest for two days.
Anna went to the pharmacy on the way home. In the evening she drank tea and went to bed early.
Why this is A2
A2 adds reported speech and duration expressions to the past tense, and both appear here in short sentences. Health vocabulary is presented inside a familiar sequence of events, so unknown words are easy to guess.
