Swedish A2 Reading Practice: Moving to a New Flat
Moving house brings housing vocabulary, the past tense and a certain amount of complaining together. All three are useful at A2.
Flytten
Förra lördagen flyttade Jonas. Hans nya lägenhet är större än den gamla, och det finns en balkong.
Två vänner kom och hjälpte till. De bar kartonger hela förmiddagen. Hissen var trasig, så de använde trappan. Jonas bor på fjärde våningen.
Vid lunch beställde de pizza och satte sig på golvet, eftersom det inte fanns något bord ännu.
På eftermiddagen satte Jonas ihop möblerna. Han tappade två skruvar och gjorde sönder en hylla, men han sa ingenting.
På kvällen var lägenheten fortfarande stökig. Jonas öppnade balkongdörren och tittade ut på gatan. Han kände sig hemma.
English translation
Last Saturday Jonas moved. His new flat is bigger than the old one, and there is a balcony.
Two friends came and helped out. They carried boxes all morning. The lift was broken, so they used the stairs. Jonas lives on the fourth floor.
At lunchtime they ordered pizza and sat down on the floor, because there was no table yet.
In the afternoon Jonas assembled the furniture. He dropped two screws and broke a shelf, but he said nothing.
In the evening the flat was still messy. Jonas opened the balcony door and looked out at the street. He felt at home.
Why this is A2
The text uses comparison, cause and consequence, and ordinal numbers on top of the past tense, which is the natural next step after a simple A2 narrative. The scene is concrete enough to follow without a dictionary.
